Video Gamer's Dilemma

I sometimes have a hard time being patient. Right now, my problem is waiting for Halo Anniversary to come out on November 15. While that's only a month and a half away, I've been feeling like I should play the original Halo again, but, as Anniversary allows you to switch back to the original experience with the press of a button (specifically, the "Back" button), I think I'll wait.

Procrastination? Or Just Plain Tired?

Is it wrong that I often start something, then never finish it? Is it just a part of me?

The reason I say this is because of my "comic", Unreal Circumstances. I started the site with the full intention of finally getting into being an author/artist of a webcomic. But, the moment I finally finished all the preparations of getting the site in tip-top shape, my spark of motivation died. I think I'm actually intimidated by the giant leap and commitment that the first comic represents. I'm also worried that my art won't be good enough, but after seeing some of the comics out there, I think I'll be fine (but I still don't feel it).

I hate this. I really want to be a part of the online community of webcomic authors (or, as I would be doing both the art and story writing, "I do everything myself"ers). I just can't get past this first step.

My current lack of motivation to get into this reminds me of how I downloaded the FREE Student Copy of Autodesk 3ds Max 2012, what I believe is the industry standard for 3D  modelling  and animation... but then never actually DID anything with it. My copy lasts until I graduate, in 2013, and then I have to pay the $$$'s for it. Now would be a perfect opportunity to familiarize myself with it, right? Well, that's what I thought, too.

Opening for Gumball Project

As the title may or may not suggest, I have finished the opening scene for our 'gumball machine' project. I have also uploaded all my files relating to this class to my Dropbox account, Just In Case.

Also: it's becoming harder to focus on my book I have to read for my ENG3U class, Fahrenheit 451. While it's a good book, and small, it's still not quite as portable as my phone, which goes with me everywhere, and has multiple free eBooks and more than a few fanfics. Don't know those terms? http://tinyurl.com/y95emlj and http://tinyurl.com/avy3h6, respectively.

COOP progress & Buttons

My COOP experience at Future Shop is going smoothly, so far. I had to call a customer on the phone yesterday, and, silly enough, my nerves started acting up. I didn't settle down until a few hours later, which is pretty sad. I hope I didn't show anything on my face or in my posture to suggest something was wrong.

In ICS today, I learned how to create buttons in Flash. Some pretty exciting stuff, even if what we've learned so far is pretty limited. We actually started using ActionScript 2.0 today, instead of just dragging stuff around on the stage. Now it feels more like a programming class, and I feel right at home from when I was teaching myself Python. (I quit after a while, I need somebody to hold me accountable for this kind of stuff, I need a reason to keep me going. Kind of like how I'm struggling for motivation to even start my darn comic...)

Introduction to Flash CS4

Today Mr. Chiarelli introduced us to Adobe Flash CS4. We learned Drawing Basics, Text Basics, Understanding Layers, and Symbols and Instances. It was interesting, and I learned how to make a Motion Tween (moving images across the screen).

PowerAMP and Hardware Test

First things first: I finished the hardware test for my Programming course. It wasn't that hard, but some of the things on there weren't in our notes, and more importantly, not in my notes. Some questions could only be answered if you had looked at the sample test on the Edublog from last year's class, or if you knew it already. I fell into the latter category, so I'm confident I did well.

Now for the next thing: I'm looking for a free alternative to the awesome PowerAMP music player for my Android phone. I don't have a credit card, so I can't buy anything on the Android Marketplace, but after trying out the 14-day trial of PowerAMP (still not done it yet, I don't want it to ever be done) the default, built-in Music app is incredibly inferior. Just about every Android user knows this, and surely somebody else has been in my predicament!

New Phone

So, I got my first "real" phone yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy Gio. A fairly new phone, as they don't have any accessories (read: case) for it.
I ended up going with Virgin Mobile, even though the rest of my family is with Koodo. The reason? Koodo has an extremely limited selection of phones, and only two Android phones, which is what I really wanted (and got). Both are old, the LG Optimus One and the Samsung Nexus S "by Google" (well, duh, who else is going to make Android?). So, after exploring my options, I went with Virgin, though I didn't get a data plan (the plan - and phone I was originally looking at, the Samsung Galaxy S, were too expensive).

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog. I seem to be making a lot of new websites lately. My comic website is my latest endeavour: Unreal Circumstances, though I haven't posted any comics yet...

So, what is this blog for? For posting what I've done in my ICS2O1 class, hence "The Programmer". ICS2O is a Computer Programming course. (Hope you've figured that out by now.) I might also post unrelated things from time to time (who knows, I might even make this my main blog... which isn't saying much, last post on my old one was June 6, 2010, IIRC).

Just printed out 7 pages worth of notes that I did for homework. Good thing I already paid the course fee for printing, huh?
